Over the weekend we decided to try spaghetti squash as a substitute for pasta noodles. The strands from the squash look like spaghetti noodles. Its not the same consistency as pasta noodles but its good and much more healthier. We didn't really do anything fancy with it since we weren't sure how the spaghetti squash would taste on its on. Once it was cooked we noticed it really has no flavor. We did not have any meat down so we used spam. We used a little too much pasta sauce. Next time we will only start with half a jar and see if that is enough. The "pasta" was good so we will be making it again.
Spaghetti Squash "Pasta"
1 spaghetti squash
1 can of spam or meat of your choice
1 jar of pasta sauce or homemade pasta sauce
salt & pepper
Preheat the oven to 375F. Cut the spaghetti squash lengthwise and gently remove all the seeds and the pulp. Sprinkle some salt and pepper and coat/drizzle butter or olive oil on the spaghetti squash. Place on a tray rind side up and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Once the spaghetti squash is done take a fork and run it through from top to bottom to separate the strands.
For the spam we cut it up into small pieces and cooked them for a few minutes on each side.
Combine the pasta sauce, spam/meat and spaghetti squash. Serve with some parmesan cheese on top.
